Halloween costumes

Started by: First Mate (2400)

Make sure your kids/grandkids have a fire safe costume. Look for the CE mark. Some costumes are easily set on fire.

Strictly Come Dancing presenter Claudia Winkleman has spoken for the first time about the serious burns her daughter suffered in a Halloween costume fire.

Matilda, eight, was in a witch's costume when it brushed against a candle at a house in London last year.

"We couldn't put her out," Winkleman told BBC One's Watchdog programme. "Her tights had melted into her skin."

You'd think that all clothing meant for children to wear, and adults as well come to that, would be fire resistant, most especially if British made. Don't suppose third world countries care about such things, if indeed made in the third world.

Mollie M over the years even so called British goods are made abroad then British labels have been sown into these goods. So I would be wary of CE labels

Peter. surely that's against Trading Standards? If that's the case, then it should be outlawed.

For those on a limited budget they will no doubt buy the costumes at a charity shop. Nothing wrong with that but who knows where or when these costumes were made. The point of my thread was to make people aware that these costumes could be highly flammable. It only takes a second for a child to brush against a candle, [and there are many used around halloween] and up they go.
